The arrangement conference — what to expect
Once the initial intake is complete and your loved one is in our care, the next step is the arrangement conference. This is the working meeting where the funeral or cremation is actually planned. It typically runs about 90 minutes, though we do not rush families — some conferences move quickly, others need more time, and both are appropriate. You choose the setting that feels right: in person at our Dallas office, at your home if travel is difficult, by video call, or entirely by phone. Bilingual (English/Spanish) service is available at every option.
During the conference, a licensed funeral director walks you through each decision in order: confirmation of identification, disposition choice (cremation or burial), the shape of any service or gathering, the obituary text and where it will be published, memorial items such as an urn or keepsake selection, and the written financial arrangements including the itemized Statement of Funeral Goods and Services required by the FTC Funeral Rule. Nothing is decided under pressure — you can pause, step out, or continue the conversation the next day.
The people who should attend are typically the next of kin plus one supportive family member or friend — someone who can take notes, hold your hand, and remember the details you may not. Please bring a government-issued photo ID for the person authorizing arrangements, any life insurance or pre-need policies you would like us to help coordinate, the deceased's Social Security number and vital-record information for the death certificate, military discharge papers (DD-214) if applying for Veterans Affairs benefits, and a photograph and a few notes about your loved one's life for the obituary.
