The U.S. State Department’s official Honduras consular directory lists a Dallas office. Use that government directory to locate its current contact information, then ask the office which team handles deaths and repatriation for your case.

Discuss possible assistance before signing a transport contract
Honduras’s foreign ministry lists repatriation of Hondurans who die abroad among the functions of its migrant-protection directorate. Ask whether assistance applies to your family and whether the consulate needs to manage the arrangements from the start.
The Honduran consulate in Madrid’s published assistance guidance warns that independently starting arrangements or signing with a funeral home can prevent financial support. That page concerns its Spanish jurisdiction; ask the office handling the Texas case to confirm the applicable conditions before you commit.
Ask for a clear explanation of eligibility, the application, any family contribution and which costs an approval would cover. A request for help is not an award. Do not assume later reimbursement of a payment already made.
Obtain the correct body or ashes instructions
The Honduran health ministry’s official requirements catalogue separately lists international-transfer checklists for a body and for ashes. Those entries are dated 2018, even though the catalogue reports a later update. Ask the responsible office for the current checklist for entry from the United States; this page does not present the older listings as newly issued requirements.
Have the arranging and receiving providers compare the same instructions. Ask which death record, preparation or cremation certificate, health authorization, translation and authentication apply, and which originals must travel with the shipment. Specify who receives your loved one
Write down the final city or community, the receiving funeral home and a named contact. Ask who handles arrival formalities and who is responsible for the trip from the arrival point to the family’s destination. A flight reservation alone does not answer those questions.
- Ask both providers to agree on the handoff point and contact details.
- Confirm how changes in the itinerary will be communicated.
- Ask whether any onward transport is priced separately.
- Share viewing, religious and burial preferences before preparation is agreed.
Confirm the route and receiving availability for the case before presenting a service date to the wider family.
Keep the quote and any assistance decision separate
Request written charges for Texas care, documents, the container, international transport, receiving services and onward travel. Mark any unconfirmed transport charge as an estimate. Ask who must approve a change and who pays each provider.

When a relative intends to carry ashes
Tell the consulate, health office and airline which person will carry the urn and the proposed itinerary. Ask whether their instructions differ for accompanied baggage and cargo, and confirm the container before choosing it.
Keep document copies with the person traveling and ask where originals need to be presented. Do not infer that a cremation certificate alone resolves entry, consular and airline requirements. If a connection uses another carrier, ask about acceptance for that leg too.
