"Texas Health Stonebriar" is a name Frisco families use for the Texas Health Resources hospital in their area. The formal name of that hospital is Texas Health Frisco — a joint venture of Texas Health Resources and UT Southwestern Medical Center — which opened in 2019 on Dallas Parkway just west of the Dallas North Tollway and a few minutes from Stonebriar Centre. Texas Health Frisco is a four-story, 22-bed inpatient hospital designed for orthopedic and short-stay surgical care, with a 24-hour emergency department. Because the inpatient census is small, families we serve there are typically post-surgical or emergency-department admissions rather than long-term ICU stays. For higher-acuity Collin County families whose loved one was in a large ICU, we also see deaths at Texas Health Presbyterian Plano (6200 W. Parker Road) and Medical City Plano — the process below is similar at those campuses.

Note for families: some Frisco residents call this hospital "Texas Health Stonebriar" because of its proximity to Stonebriar Centre. There is also a separate Texas Health "Stonebriar" freestanding emergency department in the same corridor. Freestanding EDs typically transfer decedents to a nearby inpatient hospital before release to a funeral home. If you're unsure which Texas Health facility your loved one is at, ask the nurse for the street address and phone number and share it with our care team when you call.

From our office at 12101 Greenville Avenue in North Dallas, Texas Health Frisco is roughly a 30-to-40-minute drive north on the Dallas North Tollway. Traffic north on the Tollway is usually light overnight; morning and evening rush hours can extend the drive.

What happens inside the hospital after a death

The Texas Health decedent-care sequence is standard across the system, adapted to the size and pace of Texas Health Frisco:

1. The attending physician or unit charge nurse confirms and documents the time of death.
2. The family is invited to stay with the deceased. Because Texas Health Frisco is a small hospital, nurses generally can offer generous, private time.

6. Southwest Transplant Alliance may speak with the family about organ or tissue donation if the deceased was a registered donor. This is an optional and separate decision from the funeral home choice.

Because the ED at Texas Health Frisco is 24-hour but the inpatient unit is small, families sometimes ask whether the hospital can hold their loved one until morning if the death is overnight. The answer is yes — there is no need to make hurried arrangements at 3 a.m.

Two things are specific to this hospital: keep the decedent packet Texas Health Frisco provides to the next of kin (it typically includes death-certificate information, hospital contact numbers, and referral resources), and know that the county of death matters here — Frisco is split between Collin and Denton counties, and addresses west of the Dallas North Tollway (including 12400 Dallas Parkway) are in Denton County, which determines where the Texas death certificate is filed. The transfer itself

Once we have your call and Texas Health Frisco has begun the decedent packet, one of our transfer specialists drives to Frisco.

• Typical arrival: 60 to 90 minutes after the call, longer during Tollway rush hour.
• The transfer specialist signs Texas Health's internal release form and takes custody of any personal effects the unit staff have gathered.
• Your loved one is transported back to our care center off Greenville Avenue in North Dallas.
• We call the family within a few hours to confirm the transfer is complete and to schedule the arrangement conference.

For Frisco families who prefer a Collin County funeral home for practical reasons — a shorter drive to the arrangement conference, a shorter drive for grave-side services at a Frisco-area cemetery — we will honestly tell you so. Vargas-London does not steer families away from other providers. Our job is to make sure whoever cares for your loved one is a good fit for you.

If no family was at the hospital when the death occurred

Overnight and early-morning calls from a Texas Health Frisco nurse or house supervisor are common — particularly to family members who live in Dallas or out of state:

The conference typically covers:

• Direct cremation ($1,750), memorial cremation ($4,995), or traditional funeral (from $6,350)
• Casket, urn, or keepsake selection (no obligation)
• Religious or cultural elements — Frisco and Plano have large Catholic, evangelical Protestant, South Asian Hindu, and Muslim communities; we regularly coordinate services with parishes, churches, and mandirs across Collin County
• Cemetery selection, if burial is chosen — Ridgeview Memorial Park (Allen), Pecan Grove Memorial Park (McKinney), and Restland (Dallas) are frequent choices for Frisco families; DFW National Cemetery serves veterans
• Filing the Texas death certificate (with the county of death correctly identified) and, if applicable, VA Form 21P-530 for veteran benefits
